This census was re-created from tax lists from 1782 through 1786 because the
original 1790 Amelia County, Virginia census was destroyed. 754
"Heads of Household" are listed followed by three sets of numbers as follows:
- White Souls Found in Household
- Number of Dwellings
- Number of Other Buildings on the Property
Since blacks and slaves were not included, researchers should consider number
of dwellings as an indicator of slave ownership since the family lived in one
house.
